Randomised placebo-controlled trial of dietary glutamine supplements for postinfectious irritable bowel syndrome.Zhou Q, Verne ML, Fields JZ, Lefante JJ, Basra S, Salameh H, Verne GN. Gut. 2018 Aug 14. [Epub ahead of print]
BACKGROUND:More effective treatments are needed for patients with postinfectious, diarrhoea-predominant, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). Accordingly, we conducted a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 8-week-long trial to assess the efficacy and safety of oral glutamine therapy in patients who developed IBS-D with increased intestinal permeability following an enteric infection.METHODS:Eligible adults were randomised to glutamine (5 g/t.i.d.) or placebo for 8 weeks.

Preemptive-TIPS improves outcome in high-risk variceal bleeding: An observational study.Hernández-Gea V, Procopet B, Giráldez Á, Amitrano L, Villanueva C, Thabut D, Ibañez-Samaniego L, Silva-Junior G, Martinez J, Genescà J, Bureau C, Trebicka J, Llop E, Laleman W, Palazon JM, Castellote J, Rodrigues S, Gluud LL, Noronha Ferreira C, Barcelo R, Cañete N, Rodríguez M, Ferlitsch A, Mundi JL, Gronbaek H, Hernández-Guerra M, Sassatelli R, Dell'Era A, Senzolo M, Abraldes JG, Romero-Gómez M, Zipprich A6, Casas M, Masnou H, Primignani M, Krag A, Nevens F, Calleja JL, Jansen C, Robic MA, Conejo I, Catalina MV, Albillos A, Rudler M, Alvarado E, Guardascione MA, Tantau M, Bosch J, Torres F, Garcia-Pagán JC; International Variceal Bleeding Observational Study Group and Baveno Cooperation. Hepatology. 2018 Jul 16. [Epub ahead of print]
OBJECTIVE: Patients admitted with acute variceal bleeding (AVB) and Child Pugh C score (CP-C) or Child Pugh B plus active bleeding at endoscopy (CP-B+AB) are at high risk for treatment failure, rebleeding and mortality. Preemptive TIPS (p-TIPS) has been shown to improve survival in these patients but its use in clinical practice has been challenged and not routinely incorporated. The present study aimed to further validate the role of preemptive TIPS in a large number of high-risk patients.

The Role of Endoscopic Ultrasonography and Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography in Patients With Acute Pancreatitis After Negative Computed Tomography Findings of the Etiology.Kim DB, Paik CN, Song DS, Kim HA, Kim YJ, Lee JM, Hwang SS. Pancreas. 2018 Aug 24 [Epub ahead of print]
OBJECTIVES:We aimed to investigate the roles of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) in detecting the causes of acute pancreatitis after negative computed tomography(CT) findings.

EUS-guided antegrade intervention for benign biliary diseases in patients with surgically altered anatomy (with videos).Mukai S, Itoi T, Sofuni A, Tsuchiya T, Tanaka R, Tonozuka R, Honjo M, Fujita M, Yamamoto K, Nagakawa Y. Gastrointest Endosc. 2018 Aug 1. [Epub ahead of print]
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Although balloon enteroscopy-assisted ERCP (BE-ERCP) is effective and safe for benign biliary diseases in patients with surgically altered anatomy (SAA), BE-ERCP is not always successful. Recently, EUS-guided antegrade intervention (EUS-AI) including a 1-stage or 2-stage procedure has been developed for BE-ERCP failure cases.

A neural network algorithm for detection of GI angiectasia during small-bowel capsule endoscopy.Leenhardt R, Vasseur P, Li C, Saurin JC, Rahmi G, Cholet F, Becq A, Marteau P, Histace A, Dray X; CAD-CAP Database Working Group. Gastrointest Endosc. 2018 Jul 11 [Epub ahead of print]
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Gastrointestinal angiectasia (GIA) is the most common small-bowel (SB) vascular lesion, with an inherent risk of bleeding. SB capsule endoscopy (SB-CE) is the currently accepted diagnostic procedure. The aim of this study was to develop a computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) tool for the detection of GIA.
